1965  The first network experiment was directed by Larry Roberts at MIT Lincoln Lab, two computers talked to each other using packet-switching technology.
 
1972  The first basic e-mail programs was written by Ray Tomlinson.

1973  First international web connections were made to the ARPANET: University College of  London (England) and Royal Radar Establishment (Norway).

1976  The APPLE computer was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

1976  Queen Elizabeth II sends out an email.

1981  IBM announces its first personal computer.

1981  Microsoft creates the DOS operating system.

1985  Symbolic.com becomes the first registered domain.

1987  25 million PCs sold in the US.

1989  McAfee Associates is founded; the anti-virus software was available for free.

1992 The term “surfing the internet” is fashioned by Jean Armour Polly.

1993  The Web grows by 341,000 percent in a year.

1996 The domain name tv.com sold to CNET for $15,000.

1997  Business.com sold for $150,000

1995  Windows 95 released and new, improved versions created thereafter.

2005 Most schools and households house a computer.
