Double-A, also known as Class AA, is the second-highest level of play in Minor League Baseball (MiLB), below Triple-A.

Double-A baseball was established in 1912, with three leagues being designated as Class AA. These leagues were previously designated as Class A, the highest level then.

In 1946, the three leagues were moved to the newly established Class AAA (Triple-A), and Class A1 became Double-A with two leagues: the Southern Association and the Texas League. Over the years, there have been limited changes to leagues at the Double-A level, with the Texas League remaining in Double-A since 1946, the Eastern League since 1963, and the Southern League since 1964.

Currently, Double-A is the second-highest level in the MiLB hierarchy, positioned between Triple-A and High-A. Double-A teams are affiliated with Major League Baseball (MLB) clubs, and players are often promoted or demoted based on performance and developmental needs.

Double-A baseball is organized into three main leagues, each featuring several teams further divided into divisions. This provides for a structured environment for player development and competitive play.

At this time, there are 30 Double-A teams, one for each MLB team. These are organized into the Eastern League, the Southern League, and the Texas League.

Before 2021, all three active Double-A leagues played split seasons, with teams winning their division in either half of the season qualifying for the postseason. Currently, the top two teams in each league meet in a best-of-five postseason series to determine league champions.

The Eastern League has two divisions: Northeast and Southwest. The Northeast Division consists of the Binghampton Rumble Ponies, Hartford Yard Goats, New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Portland Sea Dogs, Reading Fightin Phils, and Somerset Patriots. The Southwest Team includes the Akron RubberDucks, Altoona Curve, Chesapeake Baysox, Erie SeaWolves, Harrisburg Senators, and Richmond Flying Squirrels.

The Southern League has North and South divisions. The North Division includes the Birmingham Barons, Chattanooga Lookouts, Knoxville Smokies, and Rocket City Trash Pandas, while the South Division consists of the Biloxi Shuckers, Columbus Clingstones, Montgomery Biscuits, and Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

The Texas League includes North and South divisions. The North Division consists of the Arkansas Travelers, Northwest Arkansas Naturals, Springfield Cardinals, Tulsa Drillers, and Wichita Wind Surge. Its South Division has the Amarillo Sod Poodles, Corpus Christi Hooks, Frisco RoughRiders, Midland RockHounds, and San Antonio Missions.

Promotion from Single-A to Double-A play can be one of the most difficult for players because this is the level at which pitchers need to have a good off-speed pitch in their repertoires. Additionally, fastball-only hitters have to learn to hit off-speed pitches.

Teams playing at the Double-A level tend to have more stable rosters, allowing fans to get better acquainted with the players.
