Geocaching is a form of outdoor recreation in which geocachers use a global positioning system (GPS) receiver or mobile device to locate geocaches that have been hidden in specific locations marked by coordinates.

The game might be described as a real-world treasure hunting game in which the treasure is a geocache. Typically, a cache is a small, waterproof container that contains a logbook. The geocacher signs the logbook with their established username and dates it to prove they have found the cache. After signing the log, the cache is replaced as it was found.

Larger containers, such as Tupperware, ammo boxes, or containers explicitly designed for this purpose, are sometimes used to include various items, such as toys or trinkets, along with the logbook.

Since this is the shopping area of our guide, we will focus on the products involved in the activity here. Additional information and resources on geocaching can be found in the corresponding category within our Sports & Recreation section.

Other than the GPS devices themselves, there aren't a lot of products required for geocaching. Various types of containers can be used to hide the cache. These don't have to be made specifically for geocaching, although dedicated cache containers are available. Additionally, geocachers might use trackables, which are items like Travel Bugs and Geocoins that can be moved from cache to cache. Other types of geocaching gear might include Tools of the Trade (TOTT) kits, which include items like logbooks, pencils, and trackable tags.

While certainly not required, some clothing manufacturers produce specific apparel, like geocaching shirts, hats, and bags, made for comfort but primarily intended to promote a feeling of community among geocachers.

Munzee is similar to geocaching, except that it uses QR code technology, in addition to GPS, to prove the find rather than using a logbook. Often printed on weatherproof stickers, the QR codes are placed by players at places of interest. These stickers are called Munzees. The QR codes on the Munzees are read through a smartphone application for iOS or Android. Both the finding and the hiding players receive points for deploying and finding Munzees.

Virtual Munzees are available for purchase. These also appear in app lists and on maps, and they are "captured" by locating the app device within 300 feet of the designated location. To verify capture, the device must also be within 300 feet of a QR code Munzee.

Munzees can consist of any material. They must have, at a minimum, a QR code and physically meet the conditions of the location, such as being waterproof and weatherproof. Munzees can be self-generated, printed, or purchased from a web store or authorized distributor.

Products associated with geocaching or munzee are the focus of this category. Appropriate topics may include manufacturers and retailers of GPS systems appropriate for geocaching and any other geocaching products.
