Equipment, gear, and accessories used in street hockey are at the heart of this portion of our web guide.

Street hockey refers to a collection of team sport variants played outdoors on foot or wheeled skates, using a ball designed for playing on flat, dry surfaces. Some variants use a puck rather than a ball, although a ball is most common. As in other forms of hockey, the objective is to score more goals than the opposing team by shooting the ball into the opposing team's net. Street hockey variants are derived from ice hockey, floor hockey, bandy, or field hockey.

Street hockey is commonly played on an outdoor surface, such as a street, a parking lot, a tennis court, or an asphalt surface.

There are indoor rinks explicitly designed for hockey played on foot. They are referred to as dek hockey or ball hockey rinks.

This part of our guide is in the shopping area, so we will be focusing on the products involved in the sport here. Further information about the sport can be found in the corresponding category within our Sports & Recreation area.

While equipment and gear are available specifically for street hockey, in pickup-style games, most players tend to play with a combination of equipment designed for other sports, such as hockey, soccer, or whatever they might have available. All of the ice hockey-style equipment is necessary except for certified helmets.

Street hockey sticks are similar to ice hockey sticks in shape and size, although they are made of materials designed to withstand use on asphalt. Some street hockey sticks are made in one-piece form and are made of plastic, polyurethane, graphite, aluminum, wood, or a blend of these materials. Ice hockey sticks can also be used, but specially designed street hockey sticks are usually cheaper and more durable for playing on asphalt and concrete.

Street hockey can be played with either a ball or a puck. Balls are usually made of durable plastic and designed to withstand rough surfaces. Franklin Sports and Mylec product balls explicitly made for the sport. Green Biscuit produces pucks designed for smooth gliding on hard surfaces.

The International Street and Ball Hockey Federation, the worldwide governing body of official tournaments and leagues, recognizes two types of balls for play: a hard, warm climate ball for adult or youth play or a softer version for colder weather.

Although street hockey is less physical than ice hockey, protective gear is still important. These should include shin guards, gloves, elbow pads, and a helmet. Bauer, CCM, and Franklin Sports are popular brands.

As in other forms of hockey, goalies require additional protective gear, including leg pads, chest protectors, and masks. Bauer and CCM are leading manufacturers of goalie equipment.

Players often wear athletic shoes with good grip, such as those made by Adidas or Nike, although there are several good options. Some players prefer specialized street hockey shoes offered by brands like Mission.

Several manufacturers and retailers cater to the street hockey market, offering a large selection of equipment and gear.
