Equipment and gear used in floorball are the focus of this section of our web guide.

Invented in Sweden in the late 1960s, the sport is played on an indoor rink with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Similar in some ways to hockey or bandy, the game is played with lightweight sticks and a plastic ball with holes.

Floorball is most prevalent in Europe, particularly in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, but its popularity is growing in North America, Asia, and other parts of the world.

Since this is the shopping section of our guide, we will focus here on the products used in the sport, but additional information and resources can be found in the corresponding category within our Sports & Recreation area.

Often compared to ice hockey for its similar strategic gameplay, floorball is played on a flat surface without skates and with minimal equipment requirements.

Floorball sticks are lightweight, usually made of composite materials like carbon fiber, fiberglass, or both, ensuring strength and flexibility. Sticks vary in length, flex, and blade type to accommodate different player preferences and roles. For example, players focused on shooting might prefer stiffer sticks, while those emphasizing ball control opt for more flexible options.

The game is played with a lightweight, hollow, perforated plastic ball. These holes are designed to reduce air resistance, enabling faster movement. Balls used in competition are precision-manufactured to meet International Floorball Federation (IFF) standards, including a weight of 23 grams and a diameter of 72 millimeters.

Players wear non-marking indoor court shoes with excellent grip, stability, and lateral support. Specialized shoes designed for floorball are similar to those used in handball.

Although floorball is a non-contact sport, goalkeepers, in particular, wear protective equipment like padded jerseys, pants, knee guards, and helmets. Field players sometimes wear lightweight shin guards for added protection.

Teams typically wear coordinated jerseys, shorts, and socks. Uniforms are designed for breathability and freedom of movement, often featuring moisture-wicking materials.

Accessories, such as stick grips, wristbands, headbands, and training bibs, also play a role in enhancing performance and comfort. Stick grips, for instance, improve handling and reduce slippage during sweaty, high-intensity matches.

The floorball market is supported by a mix of specialized manufacturers and retailers who cater to the market, most of which are based in Scandinavia. Fat Pipe, Oxdog, Salming, Unihoc, and Zone Floorball are key players.
