Commonly known as the Pallottines, the Society of the Catholic Apostolate are a Society of Apostolic Life within the Roman Catholic Church. The Order was founded in 1835 by Saint Vincent Pallotti, a Roman priest. Born in Rome, Pallotti had developed a large structure of apostolic activity in Rome, which is what led to his founding a new institution, the Union of Catholic Apostolate. To assist in the work of the Priests and Brothers of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate, the Congregation of Pallottine Missionary Sisters (Missionary Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate, or the Pallottine Sisters) was also founded by Pallotti in 1838, and has become an international congregation of religious women, serving in several countries. Vincent Pallotti died in 1850 without having witnessed the full development of his efforts, but his closest collaborators continued his work and completed the development of the Society. Saint Vincent Pallotti was beatified in 1950, and canonized in 1963 during the Second Vatican Council. The charism of the Society of Catholic Apostolate is to assist people in living their apostolic vocation in life, as Saint Pallotti believed that all Christians were called to revive their faith, to rekindle charity, and to be apostles. In pursuit of its mission, the Pallottines operate parishes, missions, schools, clinics, retreat houses, and the Institute for Catholic Church Statistics in Poland. The Pallottines also founded and direct the Catholic Apostolate Center in Washington, DC, which develops programs to help strengthen the Order's mission. The Irish Pallottine Province is now known as the Mother of Divine Love Province. Other Catholic organizations related to the Pallottines are the Friends of Irish Pallottines and the Pallottine Teenage Federation. The Pallottines are active in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Rwanda, Switzerland, the United States, and Uraguay.
