Hamilton, New Zeleand is located on the North Island on both banks of the Waikato River. The first residents were those in Māori villages, and missionaries arrived in the 1830s. In 1864, the British settlement was founded by Colonel William Moule and named in honor of Captain John Hamilton, who was killed in the battle of Gate Pa, Tauranga.
