Rock Springs, Wyoming, is located in Sweetwater County. It is the site of one of the most bloody race riots in the country's history, the Rock Springs massacre, which took place on September 2, 1885, when white immigrant miners, most of whom were members of the Knights of Labor, and Chinese immigrant miners clashed, touching off similar violence in the Washington Territory.
