The historic town of Harpers Ferry in West Virginia is in Jefferson County is located at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. It is famous for the 1859 raid on the armory by John Brown as well as its importance in the War Between the States. It was named for its founder, Robert Harper, who first obtained his land there in 1761.
