The city of Provo is the county seat of Utah County and home to Brigham Young University, as well as the Mormon Church's largest missionary training center. In 1949, is was called Fort Utah when it was settled by 33 Mormon families. It was renamed Provo in 1850, in honor of a trapper who arrived from Canada in 1825.
