The Utah city of Payson is in Utah County. It was founded in 1850 by Mormons and incorporated in 1853. It was originally named Peteetneet in honor of the Ute chief Peteetneet who lived nearby. It didn't take long, though, for them to decide to rename the city, due to the fact that people who did not live in Payson had no clue how to spell or say the name. It was renamed in honor of James Pace, who company led 100 wagons to Utah.
