The first home was built in Highland, Utah in 1875 by John Poole, and that was followed by other homesteaders. Soon fifteen families lived there. Life was beyond difficult there, and Mr. Poole buried five of his children within an eight-month period in 1880, and 1894, diphtheria ran through the settlement. But the settlers were hardy and persistent, and the settlement continued to grow. It became a town in 1977.
