Located in Denton County, The Colony is a planned community developed in 1969, and modeled after Dallas, consisting primarily of single family homes, initially within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the city of Frisco, Texas. In 1976, the homeowners association petitioned to break off from Frisco and incorporate as a separate city.
