The Texas city of Pecos is the county seat of Reeves County. Although it was originally established as a camp for cattle drives on the east bank of the famed Pecos River, It was moved during the 1880s to the west bank. It is claimed that the world’s first rodeo took place there in 1883. It was settled around the train depot. It was first called Pecos Station, then changed to Pecos City, and finally the name Pecos was settled upon.
