Lake Jackson is a city in Brazoria County, Texas. The city is named after an oxbow lake by that name on the outskirts of town; which, in turn, was named after the family whose plantation home once sat alongside the lake. A relatively new town, Lake Jackson was established in the early 1940s as a planned community in support of a new plant of the Dow Chemical Company, and incorporated in 1944.
