Fort Worth, Texas is the seat for Tarrant County but is also in Denton, Johnson, Parker, and Wise Counties. Originally established as an army outpost in 1849, when it was still in the Republic of Texas. It was named in honor of Major General William Jenkins Worth, who was second in command at the beginning of the Mexican-American War and who personally planted the first US flag at the Rio Grande.
