Corpus Christi is a coastal city within the South Texas region, and the seat of Nueces County, although its borders extend into three other counties: Aransas, Kleberg and San Patricio. The area was discovered by Spanish explorer, Alonzo Alvarex de Pineda, on the Catholic feast day of Corpus Christi, in 1519, and the city that was later to grow there took the name of the day that celebrated the body of Christ.
