Sioux Falls is the largest city in South Dakota, and is the county seat of Minnehaha. Located on the banks of the Big Sioux River, a portion of the city is in Lincoln County. Chartered in 1856, it was the location of the original Fort Dakota, and did not start to thrive until the railroads arrived in the 1880s.
