Kimball is a town in Brule County, South Dakota. First known as Stake 48 on the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad, the first homestead claims were made in 1880, the settlement was organized as a village in 1883, and incorporated as a town in 1889, named for J.W. Kimball, a surveyor.
