Located in southeastern part of the state, Freeman is a city in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. Established as a railroad station in 1879, the settlement quickly attracted immigrants, particularly Germans from Russia, who arrived in the mid-1870s. By the time the town was officially incorporated in 1893, it had already become a center for business and residences.
