Blunt is a small city located in the central plains region of Hughes County, South Dakota. Settled in 1880, the settlement was initially known as Lone Tree, for a lone cottonwood tree that grew along the bank of Medicine Creek, but when it was incorporated in 1884, it was named for John E.
