Located in the Blue Mountains, on the edge of the Malheur National Forest, in Grant County, Oregon, Seneca was incorporated as a city in 1970. Homesteaders began moving into the area in the late 1800s, and its first post office was established in 1895, and named for Portland judge Seneca Smith, the brother in law of its first postmaster.
