The Pittsburg County town of Haileyville, Oklahoma was established in 1898 by Dr. D.M. Hailey, when he opened the area's first coal mines. Then a part of the Choctaw Nation, Haileyville was a company town, which was a common feature of coal mining towns. Its post office was established in 1901.
