Located in northeastern Rogers County, Chelsea began as a stop along the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad in 1881, and named for the England hometown of Charles Peach, a railroad official. The town was incorporated under the laws of the Cherokee Nation in 1889, becoming a U.S. townsite in 1902.
