Bixby is located in Tulsa and Wagoner counties in Oklahoma. Alexander Posey, a member of the Muscogee Nation, settled the area now known as Bixby in the late 1800s, founding the community that was then known as Posey on Posey Creek, which was changed to Bixby when it became a government town in 1865, named for Tams Bixby, a chairman of the Dawes Commission.
