Willoughby Hills is in Lake County, Ohio, bordered by Euclid, Richmond Heights, Gates Mills, Highland Heights, Mayfield Village, Kirtland, Waite Hill, Wickliffe and Willoughby. Originally part of the Western Reserve, the community was first named Chagrin Township, for the Chagrin River. In 1834, its name was changed to Willoughby Township. After all but the southern end of the township had separated, the remainder of the township incorporated as Willoughby Hills in 1954, becoming a city in 1970.
