Whitehall, Ohio is a city in Franklin County, and suburb of southeast Columbus. In the 19th century, Robert Brotherton, of White Hall, England, purchased a 156-acre plot of land between Alum Creek and Big Walnut Creek. On this property, Ye Olde Whitehall Tavern was built, which became an overnight stagecoach stop along the National Road. A farming community grew up, and the name “Whitehall” was adopted. The settlement was incorporated as a village in 1947, and as a city in the 1950s.
