Wellston is a city in Jackson County, in the southeastern part of Ohio. The community was founded as an iron and coal producing center in 1873, and named for Harvey Wells, a member of the Ohio Constitutional Convention. Wellston was incorporated as a village in 1876. Hamden is north of Wellston, and Coalton is southwest of the city.
