Named for Jesup Wakeman, an early settler from Connecticut who was involved in western land speculation between 1800 and 1840, Wakeman is a village in central Wakeman Township, Huron County, Ohio. The region in which the community was settled was part of the Firelands area of the Connecticut Reserve. Wakeman is twelve miles south of Lake Erie.
