Founded in 1814, and named for General Elijah Wadsworth, a Revolutionary War hero who owned a large portion of the land, although he never lived in Wadsworth. The community was founded on land that had been the furthermost southern edge of the Connecticut Western Reserve. Wadsworth became a city in 1931. Wadsworth is directly south of Sharon Center and west of Norton, while Medina is northwest of the city.
