Vermilion, Ohio is a city in Erie and Lorain counties. Settled in the early 19th century, Vermilion was incorporated as a village in 1844. Vermilion developed as a fishing and small boat harbor on Lake Erie, later becoming a resort community. Upon merging with Vermilion-on-the-Lake in 1960, Vermilion achieved city status. The city is on the southern shores of Lake Erie, between Orchard Beach and Beaver Park.
