Vandalia, Ohio is a suburb of Dayton, and a city in Montgomery County. The community was settled in 1838 by Benjamin Wilhelm, who was on his way from Pennsylvania to Vandalia, Illinois. Naming his new town after his original destination, he build a home and store in Vandalia. Incorporated as a village in 1848, Vandalia became a city in 1959.
