Upper Arlington, Ohio is in Franklin County, northwest of Columbus. The community was founded by Ben and King Thompson, real estate developers who purchased most of the farmland that was to become the city from James Miller in 1913. Initially, the development was known as Country Club District, but it was named Upper Arlington in 1917, in reference to Arlington, now known as Marble Cliff, to its south. Upper Arlington was incorporated as a village in 1918, and as a city in 1941.
