Established in 1808, Troy, Ohio became the seat of Miami County that same year, replacing Staunton, and is the largest city in that county. The community was named for the ancient city of Troy. Its location on the Great Miami River and the Miami and Erie Canal, as well as on several turnpikes, has greatly contributed to its growth. Troy is south of Piqua, north of Tipp City, and southeast of Covington.
