Founded in 1807, Tallmadge, Ohio is in both Summit and Portage counties. The community was opened to settlement as part of the Connecticut Western Reserve. The town was founded by the Rev. David Bacon, who laid the town circle out in the New England design of the day, naming the new town for Benjamin Tallmadge, a classmate of Nathan Hale, Revolutionary War veteran, and a congressman from Connecticut.
