The early history of Struthers, Ohio was focused on the Yellow Creek area, which was the site for the first iron blast furnace built west of Pittsburgh. Several furnaces were built along the creek between 1800 and 1810, but all ceased operations with the beginning of the War of 1812, and remained dormant until 1865, when Thomas Struthers, the son of John Struthers, bought back the land his father had lost during the war, laying out the village.
