Powell, Ohio is in Delaware County. The town was first settled in 1801, but it was known as Middlebury at the time. Judge Thomas Powell established the community’s first post office in 1857, and residents decided to rename the town for him. Powell was incorporated in 1947. The unincorporated areas of Liberty and Orange townships are generally considered to be part of Powell, although not within the city limits.
