Originally named Sharpsburg, after John Sharpe, an early settler, Norwood came to be referred to as Northwood, due to its location north of Cincinnati, which was shortened to Norwood and made official when the community was incorporated as village in 1888. Norwood is the most populous city in Hamilton County, Ohio, and is a suburb of Cincinnati.
