The city of Norton, Ohio is in both Summit and Wayne counties. Norton Township became a village in 1961, and a city in 1969. Norton was named for Birdseye Norton, the chief landowner and a cousin of David Hudson, the founder of Hudson Township. Before is incorporated as a village, Norton Township consisted of the hamlets of Hametown, Johnson’s Corners, Loyal Oak, New Portage, Norton Center, and Western Star.
