Situated in Stark County, Ohio, the City of North Canton was known as the Village of New Berlin when it was founded in 1831, as its residents were primarily of German descent. Its name was changed to North Canton in 1918, during World War I because of sentiment against Germany. North Canton became a city in 1962.
