Newcomerstown is a village in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. In the late 1770s, it was the largest Lenape village on the Tuscarawas River. Although the Lenape called the village Gekelmukpechunk, early European-American settlers renamed the village Newcomerstown for Chief Newcomer, who was the leader of the western Lenape. Cy Young, the famous baseball pitcher, was a native of Newcomerstown.
