The village of New Lexington, Ohio is the seat of Perry County, Ohio. New Lexington was established by James Comley in 1817. Somerset was originally the county seat, but it was passed to New Lexington during the Civil War. The village’s greatest period of growth came in the 1880s and 1890s, during a coal mining boom.
