Established in 1835, New Knoxville is a village in Auglaize County, Ohio. After the Shawnee were removed from the area, James Knox Lytle, a cousin of James Knox Polk, bought land and platted the village, naming it Knoxville in honor of his mother’s family. The village was renamed New Knoxville in 1858.
