New Concord is a village in Muskingum County, Ohio. The community was laid out in 1827, and incorporated in 1838, its settlement centered around the establishment of the National Road, now known as US Route 40. Muskingum College was founded there in 1837, and continues to be the center of business in New Concord. John Glenn, astronaut and U.S. Senator, grew up in New Concord.
