Named for the Navarre region in Spain, the village of Navarre, Ohio is in Stark County. The community was settled in 1761 on the banks of the Tuscarawas River, in southeastern Bethlehem Township. The current village was originally three separate villages: Bethlehem, Rochester and Navarre, each with its own town square. A financial depression resulted in intense rivalry between the three villages, leading to their incorporation as one village in 1872.
