Platted by Jonathan Zane and William Chapline in 1802, and named for Duncan Morrison, an early settler and innkeeper, Morristown is in Belmont County, Ohio. Originally, the community’s name was spelled Morris Town, which was shortened at some point to Morristown. In 1853, when the town was at its peak, it hosted nearly fifty businesses. However, the railroad bypassed Morristown in the late 1850s, and today no businesses survive in the village proper.
