The north-central Ohio city of Marion is the seat of Marion County. The origins of the community go back to the War of 1812, when a well was established there, which became a stopover for troops passing between Toledo and Fort Franklin. The town was platted just north of that location in 1822, and Marion County was established in 1824. The city later became a railway center.
