Malta is a small village in Morgan County, Ohio. Its history stems back to the early years of the state. Simeon Pool, a former sailor, settled in the area during the War of 1812, laying out its first lots in 1816. The community was named for the Mediterranean Island of Malta, which Pool had visited.
