Lithopolis, Ohio is a village in both Fairfield and Franklin counties. Originally laid out in 1814, and previously known as Centerville, the community was incorporated as Lithopolis in 1836. Although primarily located in Fairfield County, the village limits overlap into Franklin County. It gets its name from the Greek words "litho" and "polis", which together translate as "city of stone", named for the quarry north of the village, where Lithopolis free stone was once quarried.
