Holland is a village in Lucas County, Ohio. The community was initially known as Drakes, and later renamed Hardy, for Samuel Hardy, a member of the Continental Congress. The name Holland is thought, by some, to have come about from the ditches being dug in the 1850s to divert the swamp water. Another possible derivation has it that the community was to be named Hall Land, for Samuel Hall, an early settler, but that a clerk inadvertently changed it to Holland.
